Maxxis British Championship, Round 1

Good start to season

Report by Steve Turner

Published 10th March 2009

The first round of the Maxxis British Championship took place at Canada Heights, Kent on 8th March and presented the Proppa.com STR Honda riders with an extremely challenging opener to their season.

Qualifying

Both riders were below par in qualifying with Jordan in 10th and Nez in 25th which would make good starts a little harder to achieve.

Race 1

Both riders had reasonable starts with Jordan in 8th and Nez in 16th. On lap six Jordan made his way past Scott Column but not without the New Zealanders roost fouling his goggles resulting in him losing the place back to Column together with a further two places as both Lewis Gregory and Carl Nunn took advantage. From then on it was a case of holding his position to the end of the race and with Column and Zach Osborne both hitting the dirt on lap eight Jordan was back up to 8th which was to be his finishing position.

Nez was having a great ride moving up through the field to 11th on lap eight before losing a couple of places in the last two laps to Column and Dorren Coutts. 13th place in a field as stacked as this one was still a great result for the youngster and shows he can cut it at this level.

Race 2

Jordan got a great jump and was looking good until Mackenzie dropped it in the first corner right in front of the pack. Both Jordan and Nez managed to swerve round the carnage but not without delaying their progress leaving them in 15th and 17th respectively as they passed the pit area. Both lads had unbelievable first laps with Jordan passing the timing clock in 5th and Nez in 10th however after feeling unwell in the period between the two races Nez was soon dropping down the field and after losing ten places in four laps he made a swift exit to the van.

By lap three Jordan was up to 4th but by this time the front three were gone and he was left with a lonely ride to the end of the race or that’s what we all thought until around four laps from the finish he suddenly started eating into the 25 second lead Brad Anderson had over him. He was now in the groove and looked awesome as he pushed for all he was worth to reduce the margin and although it was all in vain as he crossed the line just three seconds behind the PAR Honda pilot it showed he has the fitness the go to the very end which is testament to the hard work and commitment he has put   throughout the winter.
