RACE REPORT – Maxxis British Championship Rd6

The sixth round of the Maxxis British Championship took place at Foxhills, Swindon on 26th July. The new owner has spent a lot of time and effort improving both the track and the paddock and both were in perfect condition.

Qualifying
Rose qualified in 7th, Noble who injured his knee practicing the day before could only manage 9th and Nez had one of his best qualifying positions of the campaign in18th.

Race 1.
Rose was really fired up and it certainly showed as he blasted to his first holeshot of the season. Noble was down in 12th and Parker was down in 29th. By the end of the first lap Rose was still leading from Anderson, Noble had made his way up to 8th and Parker to 21st. Anderson passed Rose for the lead on lap two and as Rose’s nerves got the better of him he started to suffer arm pump, with his lap times suffering as a result. He fought against it to the end of the race by which time he had been pushed down to 7th which although a little disappointing, still represented one of his best finishes in the Maxxis. After struggling with his starts for most of the season he had shown that he could still get off the line and still has the pace to run at the front.
Noble was having his own war, battling through the pain barrier to move through the field and after passing Nunn, Church, Mackenzie and Rose he was up to 4th. But the knee injury was affecting his ability to pick the tight inside lines and he was soon back under pressure from Church and Nunn. Church got the better of him on lap six and Nunn one lap later. Noble was by now secure in 6th which was to be his finishing position.
After his first lap gains Parker stalled at the end of the pit straight dropping him back down to 27th but he was showing some good form and gradually made his way back up to 18th by the last lap. All his good work was very nearly undone by a crazy move by Lloyd Vercueil who simply smashed into the rear wheel of Parker bending his sprocket, rendering his back brake inoperable. Although Vercueil went down in the collision he still cost Parker a place as he was unable to defend the last few corners from Murro.

Race 2
The start of race two was a totally different affair with Noble and Rose both hitting the deck leaving them in the last two positions. Parker meanwhile had used his head and realising he hadn’t got a good enough jump he decided to cut across the back of the pack and dive for the inside of the first corner. It worked a treat and he came through the valley in 11th. He was looking fast and relaxed as he came through for the second time but his inexperience showed as he made a mistake coming out of the right hander at the bottom of the valley. He took a handlebar to the throat and was unable to continue which was a major disappointment after he looked like he would break his way into the top ten for the first time.
After joining the race dead last Rose was tailing Noble through the field and by lap eight he was up to 16th with Noble just ahead in 14th. However Rose’s recent run of bad luck continued when as he landed off the triple at the end of the whoop section there was a loud crack as the engine casing broke up leaving a two inch hole in the side. Game over!
Noble was again fighting the pain but with the adrenalin pumping after the first corner crash he was blitzing through the field. Even after losing 12 seconds on lap six after stalling his bike he still managed to make it to 10th by the end of the penultimate lap and he showed what brute strength and determination he has by turning in his fastest lap of the race on the last lap to catch and pass Jamie Lewis for 9th for 7th overall on the day.
